Retro goes Modern

I have admired the older versions of the crochet box for a little while now. They are becoming rarer in op shops. I understood they were crocheted but didn't really understand how to crochet them together.

I am the proud owner of More Handcrafts from Kit Harris  and i only recently opened it back up for another project i was researching and there it was...the pattern i bought the book for.

So with a little help of supplies from my friend Sarah ( a lovely obsessive hoarder with an amazing stash of postcards) and an old exhibition guide for the top and bottom i got-a-crocheting. I must admit it was very unusal crocheting something with little or no bendiness in it.
I struggled and fought with it...made multiple mistakes...and eventually managed to finish one.

I constructed my own pattern shape after reading the instructions and finished it off with a  button as the latch.

I'm going to make more...different sizes and play with the shapes, that is when i recover from the first attempt.

On a little personal note....the other day you may have noticed that i featured my brand new suitcase on my blog. Right after the photo shoot i noticed some small words, written in pen, on tape. It says "Mrs Overton".
Well that is the name of my Grandma... at least my Mothers side of the family...spooky huh? Nana (Grandmas daughter) cant recall the suitcase or getting rid of it...i wonder whose it is......
